Has Booking Holdings seen financial growth?
The global revenue of Booking Holdings rebounded in 2022, following a sharp drop at the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In that year, the company's revenue amounted to nearly 17.1 billion U.S. dollars, rising by over six billion U.S. dollars from 2021 and surpassing pre-pandemic levels. A similar trend can be seen in Booking Holding’s other performance indicators, such as net income and operating income. Unlike the company’s revenue, however, these performance indicators did not surpass their pre-pandemic levels in 2022. Booking Holdings’ net income worldwide surpassed three billion U.S. dollars in 2022, up from 1.17 billion U.S. dollars the previous year. Meanwhile, Booking Holding’s global operating income amounted to around 5.1 billion U.S. dollars. This was more than double the previous year’s figure in 2021.
What is Booking.com’s place in the online travel market?
In June 2023, Booking.com was the most visited travel and tourism website worldwide with over 614 million online visitors. TripAdvisor and Airbnb came second and third in the ranking, with roughly 188 million and 108 million visits, respectively. Booking.com’s mobile app was also the most downloaded online travel agency app worldwide in 2022. That year, the company’s mobile app recorded around 80 million aggregated downloads on iOS and Google Play. Meanwhile, the Airbnb app placed second in the ranking with roughly 52 million downloads. From February 2023 to June 2023, the estimated number of visits to Booking.com worldwide increased month-over-month, further highlighting the company’s popularity. The number of visitors in February 2023 amounted to 495.5 million and by June 2023, that figure increased to 614.1 million.
