— The description of Chapter I

Kawasaki Ward - Prologue[]

Isamu was at the city when he approached his office, heading inside and opening a locked room. The room contained Isamu's deceased brother, Senzai, laying on a stretcher. As Isamu looks at his brother's corpse, he deeply mourns him and promises that he'll find out what really happened to Senzai at Aogashima.

Later on, at midnight, Isamu boards his boat and starts heading to Aogashima Island. While driving, he mentions the strange appearance of the moon. Then, an Umibozu appears and knocks Isamu off whilst getting the boat to an unknown shore. He sees an unknown person dragging him to a minka before he finally fully regains his consciousness. When he is finally conscious, he is suddenly on a warm bed and explores the minka, so he could thank the owner for saving him. While looking for the owner, he calls the Umibozu a “Whale”, confused on what happened to his boat.

The Tsushima Minka[]

Isamu decides to explore the Minka, trying to find the owner and to ask about where he was. Instead, he found a room with a book. He decides to read the book and learns about the orphan sisters that owned the Minka, who lived in poverty and had nothing to eat. Thus, starving themselves. One day, Mio, the younger sister, seems to be very joyous, and Rin, the older sister, becomes skeptical about her sudden happiness.

Rin suddenly thought that her sister was eating well without her. Driven by jealousy, she killed and consumed her own sister, and that's when she found the money in Mio's pouch. She realized that Mio was saving money for the both of them to get food. The realization gave Rin an extreme guilt over her actions. This guilt stuck with her throughout the years and it got so severe that one day, Mio's mouth appeared out of the back of Rin's head. If Rin didn't eat, she would experience utmost agony. As Isamu discovers this information, he is tasked to get three rats, poison them, and prepare the rats to the bell, all the while he avoids Rin who starts looking for Isamu once he finishes reading the story.

After Isamu feeds Mio's accursed mouth three poisoned rats, he goes to the exit and tries to leave. Rin finally realizes that Isamu was trying to trick Mio's mouth by using poisoned rodents. Out of anger, the two sisters turn into some sort of abomination and chase Isamu Uchiumi down the long hallway with various hay bales and strands of tentacles strategically placed to slow down and attack Isamu. He manages to escape and appears in a hallway with floating heads glaring at him wherever he goes.

Nure's Zone[]

As Isamu exits the hallway of heads, he is met with what seems like an endless abyss and decides to explore the wide landscape. Whilst exploring, he finds a long staircase that leads to an area where a serpent inhabited. The gigantic snake was guarding the area and if she would spot any intruder, she would petrify them into stone and scream to shatter the statue into stone. Isamu must cautiously evade the serpent’s sight by hiding behind rocks or under grass. Once he makes it past Nagisa, he enters a cave to leave.

Isamu thought he'd escaped the wrath of the Serpent but was wrong. As he was walking down the cavern, she spots him and tries to catch him. This forces Isamu to run as fast as he can to get out of her grasp. For some unknown reason, the snake doesn’t use her ability to petrify Isamu into stone.

Yoki Town[]

After Isamu escapes the wrath of the serpent, he ends up in an unknown village. The village was lonely and barren with barely any inhabitants living. As Isamu was roaming around, he found a door he could open, as he entered, he found another door leading outside, but then a mysterious figure pops out and startles Isamu. As he was walked down the long path, Isamu notices a creature whose appearance is that of a Tofu Kozo. Isamu asks him about how to escape and the boy tells him "Old Man Keneo will give you a boat, just find him near a river." While Isamu continues on the path, a creature that looks like a golfball with legs somehow stares creepily at him.

Isamu gets an odd feeling about the area but keeps exploring. He finds the Old Man sitting by the shore. After Isamu talks to Keneo, he is shocked that a “weak brat” like Isamu was able to get past “The Great Nure” (also known as Nagisa). In return for a boat, Keneo tasks Isamu with stealing a Seishin orb for him, but he must be careful and avoid “The Blind Witch. Keneo explains that he doesn’t want to steal the orb himself because the Kiiroibara Cult is ruthless. Just as he begins looking for the orb, a monster with a gnarly tongue is summoned and hunts for Isamu around the village. He tries to open the door on the front side, but it won't open, tasking him with finding a key.

He explores the five different minkas, trying to find the key, before he eventually finds it. While he visits the minkas, statues of angels conveniently point at different paintings and important items. In one of the minkas, there is a monster with a long neck and makes Isamu draw a kanji for her to reveal a painting. After exploring all the houses, Isamu uses the key to open the big minka in the middle and he is greeted with the witch that Keneo talked about earlier.

Isamu finds out that there are different paintings throughout Tsukiya’s Minka and must light the ones he saw from the smaller minkas. After lighting up the candles that correlate with the right paintings, a statue of a demon suddenly holds the Seishing Orb. Isamu grabs it and goes back to The Old Man, and in return, Keneo leads him to a boat, but it isn't what Isamu expected at all.

The blind golfball that watched Isamu from earlier now appears in a valley. Isamu interacts with it and It mocks him for falling for Keneo’s trick as he apparently didn’t care about Isamu escaping at all. Then it says that Old Man Keneo had certainly sent Isamu to a boat. The golfball tells Isamu that it is always watching, even without physically having eyes. In front of him is a sunken ship that Isamu heads to. The Umibozu from earlier in the chapter appears again and sinks down in the water. After the Umibozu leaves, Isamu enters the broken ship.

The Broken Ship[]

Isamu enters inside the ship and realizes that he isn't the only one here. There are three hostile creatures roaming the entirety of the area, each found in the floors of the ship. Isamu must also use the oxygen tanks since the ship is old and rusted, or else he would suffocate to death. His next task is to light the many candles in the ship 3 times. As Isamu tries to find candles, he sees the Blob moving around. Despite being slow, it is able to corner Isamu if he is not lucky, so he uses rooms to hide in, and not getting closer to the walls to prevent being caught by it, all the while trying to light up the only sole candle in the main floor. After he lights up the candle on the main floor, he proceeds to the elevator where he ascends to the top floor.

As he ascents to the upper floor, he finds a hideous monster with four eyes that can outrun him if he is not clever. Isamu manages to hide under the tables, trying not to get caught. He lights most of the candles on the top floor since there are only four of them. Once he finishes, he goes back in the elevator and descends back to the main floor. After Isamu leaves the top floor, he goes to the other elevator and descends to the bottom floor. It consists of boiler rooms, watertight hatches, and a creature with eyes on his hands, who appears to look like a Tenome. As Isamu lights up the candles in the basem*nt, he finishes lighting all the candles for Phase 1. Now, he must repeat the same thing for Phase II and III. Once Phase III is done, Isamu can use the vents at the bottom floor to escape the Broken Ship, but he is followed by the same creature.

As Isamu is about to crawl inside the vent, Kyogi appears from behind and calls Isamu “a little rat”. He continues on and tells Isamu that he will catch him and drag him to an unknown place. Isamu gets inside the vent and starts crawling for his life while Tenome is catching up to him from behind. After Isamu escapes the blind monster and assumes that all is safe, it ambushes Isamu by using a different vent and knocks him out.

The End - Epilogue[]

As Isamu struggles to breathe, his willingness to survive manages to save him. He finds himself under the sea and is somehow unable to drown. In the area, multiple Umibozus are watching him. The place that Isamu is at is the place that Kyogi talked about. He walks into a cave where there is a final cutscene which has Isamu being greeted by a demon, the same demon that has a statue at Yoki Town. The demon stares right at Isamu, but is unable to move due to chains locking it.

Trivia[]

  • Chapter I is the first and only main story chapter to release in 2022.
    • It is also the fifth chapter to ever be released in The Mimic.
  • This chapter had 3-4 delays starting from December 22nd, 2021 to March 26th, 2022.
    • Chapter I was originally going to be released along with Christmas Trials, but was delayed back for a few months. Hence why there is a final trailer for the game months before the chapter was actually released.
    • Prior to the release, the update was set to be on March 28th (announced in March 12th) but MUCDICH challenged the members in the Discord server for the release to be 2 days earlier. The goal was met and it was released on March 26th instead of March 28th.
  • This chapter is the first chapter to have jumpscares without making your screen go to the jumpscare box, with Takane being the only exception due to her using the jumpscare box script.
  • This is the first chapter to not have more than one subplace to teleport, and instead unloads the previous map and teleports you to the next loading map in the same subplace. This prevents players to get stuck between teleporting to different subplaces at the time.
  • Isamu was the one who performed the autopsy on Senzai because he was temporarily a pathologist, according to the note next to Senzai's body.
  • The Sisters' Minka used to have you to poison four rats when the chapter first released, but now it is required to poison only three.
    • Back when the chapter was first in testing, you had to poison 7-8 rats.
  • The Broken Ship also used to have you light four, then seven, and all nine candles, however it was now lessen to two, four, and six candles (only for solo and duo players).
    • Each players present in the map increases the candle meters by one.
  • In Yoki Town where you have to solve Takane’s kanji puzzle, she has the player draw two different kanjis for each players.
    • The kanjis are related to ‘worship’, hinting to the Kiiroibara Cult's worship towards their deity.
